Eugene Sims

Eugene Sims is a contemporary artist based in Buffalo, New York and currently pursuing his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree at the University at Buffalo. With a focus on the human figure, his narrative based oil paintings explore themes of identity, trauma, and grief. His visual language combines fully rendered forms with flattened silhouettes and lines to evoke a sense of absence or lack of resolution. Beyond painting, his interests include writing poetry, composing music, and plant care. Eugene is a former resident of Hunt Gallery and has worked on numerous murals, having been awarded Buffalo Spree’s Best New Mural of 2024.
